Forests are essential for life on Earth. They provide clean air and water, regulate the climate, and support a wide range of biodiversity. But forests are under threat from deforestation, which is a major contributor to climate change.
The Ntakata Mountains project in Tanzania is working to protect forests and empower communities. The project is headed up by Carbon Tanzania which we joined with PlaNet, our sustainability plan that offsets the emissions of our espresso machines making them "Carbon Neutral".
The communities in the Ntakata Mountains have demarcated Village Forest Reserves and developed Village Land-Use plans to protect their forests while still allowing for sustainable farming practices. The carbon revenue from the project is used to strengthen Village Forest Reserves and enforce by-laws against illegal land clearance.
In addition to the above, eight village land reserves have been created since 2016, incorporating 38,000 people. 25,080 people have had their medical expenses covered by the community health fund, paid for using carbon revenue.
The Ntakata Mountains project is not just about offsetting carbon emissions from Dalla Corte espresso machines; it's about building a sustainable future for people and wildlife. By supporting the project, Dalla Corte is helping to protect forests, empower communities, and reduce its impact on the climate.
