ASCA 2022 Australian Barista Champions

Aug 22, 2022

After three days of intense competition, Anthony Douglas of Axil Coffee Roasters takes home the coveted first place at the Australian Barista Championships.

Anthony, who came in second place during last year’s national barista championships, has been in the coffee industry for 13 years. He is currently the coffee training manager for Axil Coffee Roasters, a roastery founded by two-time Australian Barista Champion, and 2008 World Barista Champion runner-up, David Makin.

As our national champion, Anthony Douglas will now have the opportunity to represent Australia at the World Barista Championships in Melbourne. The anticipation for this event has been building within the coffee industry, not only in Australia, but all over the world as pandemic restrictions continue to ease and more countries are participating in global events.

Gabrel Tan, sponsored by Veneziano Coffee Roasters, came in second place at the Australian Barista Championships this year, and Angus Mackie of Ona Coffee came in third. We hope to see them both again next year, fighting for the title of Australia Barista Champion.
