Where to Stay in Athens for WOC

Jun 18, 2023

If you're attending the World of Coffee Expo in Athens, you may be asking yourself, “Where should I stay?”

If you want to be near the exhibition venue and prioritise convenience, consider booking a hotel close to Athens International Airport. Some popular options include:

1. Sofitel Athens Airport: It's located right across from the airport terminals, allowing you to easily walk there. This luxurious hotel offers fantastic amenities, dining options, and a relaxing atmosphere.

2. Holiday Inn Athens Attica Avenue Airport: Situated a short distance from the airport, this hotel provides a complimentary shuttle service. It features contemporary rooms, a fitness centre, an outdoor pool, and various dining options.

3. Hotel Artemis: Located in Spata, a nearby town, Hotel Artemis offers a cosy and welcoming atmosphere. Enjoy comfortable rooms, a delicious breakfast, and the convenience of their complimentary airport shuttle service.

However, if you prefer a more tourist-targeted area near the ancient ruins and the Acropolis, where you can see and taste the flavours of old, note that the airport and expo centre are a bit further away. It takes about a 40-50 minute train ride or a 35-90 minute taxi ride (depending on traffic) from the city centre.

In this case, consider staying in Syntagma Square, Plaka, or Monastiraki. These areas offer an up-close-and-personal experience with Athens' rich history, famous monuments, and delightful shops. The venue for the World Espresso Championship, 360 Degrees Hotel Athens, is highly rated and has one of the best views of the Acropolis in the city, we highly recommend it.

Regardless of where you stay, Athens has an efficient public transportation system that will easily connect you to and from the World of Coffee Expo venue.

One important thing to note is the presence of pickpockets, especially in tourist areas. To protect your valuables, it's advisable to use under-the-clothing hidden money and passport pouches, as well as locking bags that you wear in front of you. Additionally, recent incidents of Airbnb break-ins make it essential to stay vigilant. If possible, choose hotels with wall-bolted safes, which are generally safer than Airbnb accommodations.

In conclusion, consider your priorities and choose the option that suits you best for an incredible stay in Athens during the World of Coffee Expo. Enjoy the event and stay safe while exploring this magnificent city!
